MS Dhoni has now equalled Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma’s record for most man-of-the-match awards by an Indian in the IPL.

MS Dhoni did not play against Mumbai Indians when Chennai Super Kings were handed a heavy defeat on Friday. 5 days later, he returned to lead CSK and said he was still weak but the fever had subsided. When Dhoni walked out to bat, he looked anything but weak as he ran hard and hit 4 fours and 3 sixes.

Behind the wickets, MS Dhoni was as brilliant as always. He affected 2 stumpings and took 1 catch to oversee a huge win for CSK who returned to the top of the table.

MS Dhoni, who has scored 358 runs from 11 matches in the 2019 IPL, has won 3 man-of-the-match awards this season. He had last won 3 man-of-the-match awards in the IPL in 2013 when he scored 461 runs from 18 matches.

In 2018, MS Dhoni was on fire and scored 455 runs from 16 matches as Chennai Super Kings won the IPL for the third time.

MS Dhoni was asked about his quick glovework by the host broadcaster and he said it has all come from tennis ball cricket and the desire to stick to basics.

“I think it’s something that’s come from tennis ball cricket. But you still have to do the basics and graduate to that level. If you want to keep like that you can make mistakes; so I still think basics are most important,” he said.
