Kolkata Knight Riders star Shubman Gill was the man of the moment on Friday night in Mohali as he scored a stellar half-century on his home ground to guide his team to victory against hosts Kings XI Punjab. But it was Shubman Gill’s father who stole the show after he was seen doing the bhangra after his son reached his third fifty in IPL 2019.

Shubman Gill’s father could not contain his excitement and burst into the bhangra, something which even KKR co-owner Shah Rukh Khan noticed and complimented.

The Gill family then got together for a chat on iplt20.com where Shubman asked his father about his celebratory bhangra.

“People are telling me that you had a wild celebration after I reached my half-century?” Shubman asked his father.

“I’m very happy that you played so well on your home ground. I danced after your fifty, did the bhangra,” Shubman’s father Lakhwinder Singh said.

Kolkata Knight Riders co-owner Shah Rukh Khan also tweeted about Shubman’s father’s bhangra and dedicated the night to Gill senior.

“Well done @KKRiders & @DineshKarthik . All played like u shouldby backing urselves. @lynny50 #SWarrier @RealShubmanGill good job. But tonite belongs to Papa! 3 cheers for proud papa & family,” Shah Rukh Khan tweeted along with a picture of Shubman’s father doing the bhangra.

Shubman Gill smashed 65 not out off 49 balls as the Knight Riders chased down 184 with six wickets in hand and two overs to spare. The victory helped KKR keep their chances of qualifying for the playoffs alive. Kings XI Punjab on the other hand, now have no chance of advancing any further.

Kolkata Knight Riders now have 12 points from 13 matches and have a very real chance of making it to the playoffs if they beat Mumbai Indians in the last league match of the 2019 Indian Premier League. KKR had won 4 out of their first 5 matches this season before losing 6 in a row.

KKR had snapped their losing streak with a 34-run victory over Mumbai Indians and then beat KXIP in Mohali to register back-to-back wins.
