Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are back playing at home after close to two weeks of being on the road. Dinesh Karthik’s men had a brilliant start to Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019, winning two on the trot at Eden Gardens and the second-placed side will be keen on continuing the winning momentum at home when they host Delhi Capitals on Friday.
The focus has been on India great Sourav Ganguly in the lead up to match 26 of IPL 2019 as the former Kolkata Knight Riders captain will be seen sitting in the Delhi Capitals dugout as the advisor of the visiting team at the Eden Gardens.
Incidentally, the Knight Riders will be eyeing a major T20 landmark in the presence of their former captain and local hero, Ganguly on Friday. KKR have the opportunity to become only the fifth side in T20 history and the third team in IPL to win 100 matches.
Only Middlesex (112), Nottinghamshire (103), Warwickshire (101), Mumbai Indians (112) and Chennai Super Kings (110) have managed to register more than 100 wins in T20 cricket.
Delhi’s woeful record at Eden Gardens
Kolkata Knight Riders are being considered favourites to beat Delhi Capitals despite the visitors heading into Friday’s match with a two-match unbeaten run.
The head-to-head record stands firmly in favour of the Knight Riders. Delhi have lost seven out of eight matches at the Eden Gardens with their only win coming in 2012. KKR have an overall head-to-head advantage of 13-9 in 23 matches between the two sides over the years.
The Knight Riders will also be hoping to avenge their early-season defeat to Delhi Capitals. Notably, Shreyas Iyer’s men clinched a Super Over victory when the two teams met on March 30 at the Feroz Shah Kotla.
One can expect a lot of runs at the Eden Gardens as the wicket at the iconic venue has been extremely batsman-friendly in IPL 2019 with an average score of 200 the highest this season.
KKR will be hoping their big guns at the top Chris Lynn and Sunil Narine fire The opening duo has been blowing hot and cold but showed signs of hitting form against Rajasthan Royals in Jaipur on Sunday.
All eyes will be on KKR’s top-scorer Andre Russell, who has set IPL 2019 on fire with 25 sixes so far. The last time Russell played at the Eden Gardens, he smashed five sixes and three boundaries in a 17-ball 48 against the Kings XI Punjab (March 27).
Russell had also taken the Delhi Capitals bowlers to the cleaners during their away game at Kotla, hitting six sixes in a 28-ball 62.
