India vs Pakistan: Shoaib Akhtar slammed Pakistan pacer Hassan Ali and asked him to stop jumping around at the Wagah Border and focus on his cricket instead. On Sunday, Ali gave away 84 runs as Pakistan went down to India once again in a World Cup game.

- Shoaib Akhtar singled out pacer Hasan Ali as one of the architects of Pakistan’s defeat
- Hasan Ali went for 84 runs off his 9 overs, the most expensive figures by a Pakistani bowler in World Cups
- Akhtar also slammed Sarfaraz Ahmed and called him a ‘brainless’ skipper
Pakistan were completely outclassed by India at Old Trafford on Sunday as they succumbed to an 89-run (DLS) defeat. It was Pakistan’s 7th successive loss to India in the tournament’s history.
Under overcast conditions, Pakistan captain Sarfaraz Ahmed opted to field first but his bowlers looked clueless against aggressive Indian batsmen who went on to pile up 336 for 5 off 50 overs. Besides, Pakistan were sloppy on the field and it left their fans fuming.
Chasing the huge total, Pakistan lost Imam-ul-Haq early and managed only 38 runs in the first 10 overs and soon collapsed to 165 for 6 to eventually lose the rain-interrupted game by a massive margin.
A dismal display in all the three departments from Pakistan players did not go down with former Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar fuming.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Shoaib Akhtar slammed Pakistan captain Sarfaraz Ahmed and called him a ‘brainless’ skipper and then one by one took a shot at every other Pakistani player.
Lashing out at fast bowler Hasan Ali, Akhtar pointed out to Ali’s antics at the Attari-Wagah Border where he performed his signature wicket-taking gesture.
“Hasan Ali, who never shies away from jumping around at the Wagah border, couldn’t apply himself when it mattered the most. Many of his deliveries were short-pitched. His mindset seems to be: I want to keep playing T20s and the PSL. But in the World Cup 2019, we can see that he has not shown any pace or swing that could trouble batsmen,” said Shoaib Akhtar.
Critcizing Sarfarz, Akhtar said, “The game was half-won by Pakistan when Sarfaraz won the toss, but he tried hard to lose the match. Toss was very crucial and even if Pakistan had made 260, with their bowling, they could have defended it. So I think it was just brainless captaincy. It’s a very saddening and disheartening performance from the Pakistan team captain. I wanted to see shades of Imran Khan in him but it’s too late for him now.”
Hasan Ali proved to be the most expenisive Pakistan bowler on Sunday as he leaked 84 runs in the 9 overs he bowled while picked a wicket.
After one victory in the 5 games, including a wash-out, Pakistan have 3 points to be placed among the bottom two on the World Cup points table.
