CHANDIGARH: Three youths were crushed by a passenger train while they were taking a selfie on a railway track near a Panipat park late on Monday. The three — Chaman, Sunny and Kishan — hailed from UP’s Aligarh and were relatives. Another youth, Dinesh from Delhi, had a narrow escape. The four, who worked as daily wage labourers, had come to the city to attend a wedding of a relative.
According to eyewitnesses, the four had been roaming on the railway tracks clicking photographs of each other on their mobile phones for over half-an-hour. They then lined up for a selfie even as a train was approaching. Dinesh noticed the train and jumped to safety after alerting the other three.
In panic, Chaman, Sunny and Kishan jumped towards the left and were crushed under the train. The accident was so severe that their body parts were strewn across a 30 feet radius. “As the train passed, Dinesh found them crushed on the track and fainted in shock,” a GRP officer said.
After inquest proceedings began and autopsy was completed on Tuesday, the mortal remains of the three were handed over to their respective families. The GRP claimed to have recovered two mobile phones from the spot. The other two handsets were missing, GRP sub-inspector Rajiv Kumar said.
